When I first started this internship, I did not know what to expect. There were so many changes due to COVID-19, and my first concern was that I would not get a chance to even complete an internship I desperately needed. Once I started remotely, it took me a little bit to get used to a completely digital experience. I could say that my favorite part about this summer was the chance to grow my skills in areas like social media management, media pitching and content creation. While I did a lot of that and I enjoyed it, the biggest takeaway was the development and necessity of adaptability.
In college, I learned how to do different skills by practice or reading about it. I had due dates that I had to follow to get acceptable grades. Everything ran on a schedule and some sort of timeline with no real significant interruption to the plan. In the real world, unexpected happenings like pandemics ruin perfectly laid plans and force you to adapt to any situation. Even without the addition of a pandemic, the industry is full of changes and requires a level of flexibility to handle them. I learned how to do that this summer and I believe it will be a necessary skill for me throughout my career and even personal life.
The ability to adapt helped me develop my critical thinking skills, enhance my time management abilities, and broaden my horizons in multiple ways. The people I worked under were instrumental in making this one of the best internships I have ever had. I had the chance to work on a variety of projects and interact with people with different backgrounds and work specialties. I will always be thankful for the experience and education I received during my time at Resolute.
